I was delighted to have been successful in my application for a residency at the Ars Electronica Center during my stay in Linz. It was opened in 1996 and specialises in the artistic dimension of the digital age, presenting projects at the interface of media art, technology, design and science. The building is a glass cube situated at the side of the Danube which at night transforms into a coloured crystal illuminated by 40,000 light-emitting diodes that reflect a spectrum of colour across the river.
I spent my time their working in the ‘FabLab’, experimenting with their unique desktop programmes linked to cutting edge fabrication equipment. I was lucky enough to have an extremely knowledgeable and helpful assistant to explain the possibilities of the fantastic equipment housed within the ‘FabLab’ and took this wonderful opportunity to further develop my drawings and metal sculptures through the medium of card and Plexiglas.
